Organizing the Jordanian-Yemeni Business Forum next September

The Amman Chamber of Commerce discussed organizing the activities of the joint Jordanian-Yemeni business forum, in coordination with the Yemeni embassy in Amman, next September, in the presence of about 250 Yemeni investors representing various sectors residing in Arab and foreign countries.

In a statement today, Sunday, the Chamber indicated that it had agreed with the Yemeni embassy in Amman to hold a consultative meeting between the Jordanian commercial sector and Yemeni investors residing in the Kingdom, next August, to discuss any challenges or obstacles facing them.

The Chairman of the Chamber, Khalil Haj Tawfiq, and the Yemeni Ambassador, Dr. Jalal Faqira, also discussed the formation of a Jordanian-Yemeni business council, with the aim of strengthening cooperation relations between the business communities of the two countries, strengthening economic, commercial and investment cooperation and developing joint work in a way that serves and expands the horizons of economic relations.

Hajj Tawfiq stressed the importance of developing economic and trade relations between the two brotherly countries, improving the level of their trade numbers, and building investment partnerships, pointing out that the distinguished relations between the two countries require the development of the economic and commercial aspect, to meet aspirations. In addition to diversifying the base of mutual goods.

He pointed to the existence of strong economic relations linking Jordan with Yemen through the service sector, especially health and treatment, stressing the need to expand tourism, information technology and foodstuff sectors and benefit from Jordanian technical expertise to develop and strengthen Yemeni capabilities in this field for the public and private sectors.

He said that the Chamber is ready to provide economic information to the Yemeni side and help facilitate procedures for the development of trade relations between the two countries, provided that the embassy provides the Chamber with a list of Yemeni commodities that can be exported to be circulated to the members of the General Assembly, in addition to its readiness to hold any training courses or workshops for the Chamber’s members from among the Yemeni brothers through the Amman Chamber of Commerce Training Academy and to hold remote courses and workshops for employers in Yemen according to their needs.

For his part, the Yemeni ambassador said that the Yemeni business community is interested in strengthening and revitalizing its trade and investment relations with Jordan, and establishing commercial partnerships in many economic sectors, stressing the depth of Jordanian-Yemeni relations.

And he indicated that the embassy has a preliminary vision about the investment environment law, and it wants to reactivate and revitalize trade exchange between the two countries and urge Yemeni business owners to come to invest in Jordan, given its strategic importance and distinguished position at the regional and international levels, pointing to the need to review some procedural aspects facing Yemeni investors in coordination between the embassy, ​​the chamber and the concerned official authorities.

He called on the Jordanian private sector to explore investment opportunities in Yemen, which is a large and wide market for agricultural products, animal production and fish wealth.

The members of the Chamber’s Board of Directors affirmed that the Kingdom has a good investment climate and enjoys political stability, as well as close relations with neighboring countries and the international community, pointing to the existence of modern legislation and laws that attract investment, and the provision of good infrastructure such as transport and communication networks, public services, a modern and developed financial and banking system, and qualified human resources.

They called for overcoming difficulties and addressing any challenges facing increasing trade exchange between the two countries, especially in the field of medical tourism, stressing the importance of increasing the number of weekly flights between the two countries in order to stimulate trade and investment.

Trade exchanges between the two countries during the past year amounted to about $93 million. Foodstuffs, medicines, cement, fertilizers, paints, carpets, clothes and household items are the most prominent Jordanian exports to Yemen.
