Yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates summoned the Chargé d’Affaires of the Swedish Embassy in Amman to convey a strongly worded message of protest to his country’s government, after allowing an extremist to attack the Holy Quran again in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, under police protection.
The Ministry affirmed its condemnation of the desecration of a copy of the Holy Quran, an expression of a culture of hatred, and a crude provocation of the feelings of about two billion Muslims, which cannot be justified in the context of freedom of expression at all.
The ministry stressed the need for the Swedish government to take the necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of these acts, which constitute a violation of common human values, a dangerous embodiment of a culture of hatred and racism that incites violence, and a manifestation of Islamophobia that Jordan absolutely condemns.
