Former MP Ibrahim Abu El-Sid warned of the danger of approving the draft cybercrime law, due to its significant negative repercussions on public freedoms and freedom of opinion and expression.
Abu al-Sid, who held the position of assistant speaker of the House of Representatives in the eighteenth parliament, said that the previous parliament rejected the controversial bill, because it “aimed at silencing mouths and imposing customary life.”
And he indicated that returning the bill to the 19th House of Representatives is an attempt by the government to continue the strict control that was imposed during the implementation of the Defense Law, during the Corona virus crisis.
He pointed out that the government still insists on the approach of “silencing mouths” and not giving freedom even to journalists as they are the fourth authority, while the government does not consult specialists in amending laws.
He added, “The executive authority has encroached on the legislature and trade unions, and has become behaving in an inappropriate and unacceptable manner,” pointing out that the draft law is not compatible with political reforms and calls for empowering political and partisan life.
Abu El-Sid called on members of the 19th House of Representatives to reject the draft cybercrime law, which aims to silence mouths and restrict freedoms.
