The draft cybercrime law sparked widespread controversy within the House of Representatives and through social media platforms and the media, after accusations of the government seeking to restrict public freedoms and freedom of opinion and expression.
Parliamentarians sharply criticized the government for returning the draft cybercrime law, although the 18th House of Representatives rejected it, due to its repercussions on public freedoms.
National and partisan figures called on the government and the House of Representatives to respond to the draft cybercrime law, as it is a sword wielding public freedoms, and harsh penalties and bringing them to unacceptable levels.
Representatives accused the government of delaying sending the draft law to the representatives, in an effort not to read it correctly, which makes its approval faster, which achieves the government’s desire.
The House of Representatives referred the draft law to its legal committee, after a preliminary reading inside the parliament dome that sparked widespread controversy, while the committee continues to discuss the law, which was rejected by the Journalists Syndicate.
Al-Bawsala publishes the text of the controversial draft cybercrime law, while presenting the most prominent articles that increase penalties for publishing cases, whether through the media or social media platforms.
