The draft Cybercrime Law for the year 2023 includes an obligation for social media platforms outside Jordan, which have more than 100,000 subscribers in the Kingdom, to establish an office in Jordan to deal with requests and notifications issued by judicial and official authorities.
And this came in Article 37 of the draft, in which it was stated that in the event that social media platforms outside Jordan do not comply with this, then these platforms are notified by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the obligation to comply with the aforementioned within a period not exceeding six months starting from the date of sending that notification.
If that period expires and the social media platforms outside Jordan do not comply with that, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority may take the following measures, respectively:
1. Ban ads on those platforms in the Kingdom for a period of 60 days.
2. In the event that the sixty days have passed, they may reduce the bandwidth of Internet traffic by 25% on those platforms for a period of 60 days.
3. In the event that the period stipulated in Clause 2 expires, the Authority may reduce the bandwidth of Internet traffic by 50% on those platforms for a period of 60 days.
4. In the event that the period stipulated in Clause 3 of Paragraph expires, the Authority will reduce the bandwidth of Internet traffic by 75% on those platforms for a period of 60 days.
On Saturday, the House of Representatives included the draft cybercrime law for the year 2023 in the agenda of the first extraordinary session on Sunday, after it was approved by the Council of Ministers and referred to the Council.
And a royal decree was issued calling the National Assembly to meet in an extraordinary session, starting on Sunday, the sixteenth of July in the year 2023 AD, in order to pass draft laws, including the draft cybercrime law for the year 2023.
