A parliamentary memorandum signed by a number of deputies demanded, on Sunday, to address the government to reopen the file of the Attarat project to generate electric power from oil shale, due to the presence of “suspicions of corruption and negligence in this project.”
The memorandum indicated that the terms of the contract with the consortium of companies that own the project, especially with regard to selling electricity to the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) at high prices, which indicates leniency and lack of interest in developing a clear feasibility study for the project by the government in which this agreement was signed, which necessitated the government The current government is to go to international arbitration to resolve this issue in order to avoid further financial losses to Jordan, after it became clear to them that there was an unfairness in the price of selling electricity.
The memorandum also called for an investigation into the “bids” file for this project and all the project contractors to whom these bids were awarded, due to suspicions of corruption in some of them gaining unlawfully by exploiting their influence and positions at that time.
