For years, many families and clans in Jordan have been keen to have their own diwan, association, or guesthouse that opens its doors on holidays and various social occasions, which increases communication between its members on the one hand, and contributes to reducing the burdens on people on the other hand in many occasions. Private institutions such as parties, weddings, and mourning houses, and there are some diwans and associations that contribute, through some donations, to help some needy families and take care of the family’s orphans.

In this context, the General Iftaa Department received an inquiry about the ruling on building a private diwan for a family to hold social events of public benefit, and if the donation in building the diwan is considered as an ongoing charity or not?

And the response to the fatwa, published on her Facebook account and monitored it, stated:compassDonating for the creation of a family diwan is considered a form of cooperation in righteousness and piety, and it is no secret that it is desirable among people.

And the “Iftaa” said, “We hope to God that it will be from the ongoing charity for those who intend it (the endowment); Because charitable giving is in the eye of the building, and the aim of this office is to provide assistance to the members of the clan by helping them in their joys and sorrows, and other acts of righteousness and charity, and in which there is a lot of uninterrupted reward. On the authority of Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him, that the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: (When a person dies, his good deeds are cut off from him except for three: except for ongoing charity, or knowledge that is beneficial, or a righteous son who prays for him) Narrated by Muslim.

And the fatwa confirmed that the donations should not be from zakat funds, and also pointed out that for the Muslim to receive the reward from God Almighty for this endowment, the intention should be pure to God Almighty, and the goal of the endowment is to help others in what is permissible and to avoid forbidden things.
