Today, Thursday, the Human Rights Council adopted a resolution calling on Syria to abide by its responsibilities to respect and protect the human rights of all persons within its jurisdiction and in line with Syria’s obligations under international law.

The resolution, which was adopted during the activities of the fifty-third session of the United Nations Council in Geneva, called for the protection of returning refugees and displaced persons from human rights violations, and assistance in creating conditions conducive to the return of refugees.

The resolution urged all parties to release the forcibly disappeared persons in Syria and to provide accurate information to the families of the missing regarding their fate and whereabouts, calling on all parties to the conflict to deal more effectively with sexual and gender-based violence throughout Syria.
