The Foreign Ministry welcomes the decision of the Human Rights Council to combat religious hatred

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs welcomed the adoption by the United Nations Human Rights Council of a draft resolution “combating religious hatred, which constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence.”

The Ministry stressed the need to address acts of hate in all its forms, especially the repeated attacks on the Holy Quran, stressing that addressing the culture of hatred, discrimination and rejection of the other is a shared responsibility, and a necessity to perpetuate a culture of peace and common human values.

It is noteworthy that this decision is considered one of the most important outcomes of the emergency session held by the United Nations Human Rights Council on the sidelines of the fifty-third session of the Council on Tuesday in Geneva, in which Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi participated, and during which he delivered the Kingdom’s statement, which affirmed The need for the international community to enact laws that criminalize and prevent insulting religious symbols and sanctities.
