My Public Driver calls on the government to pay fuel subsidies to Amman drivers

On Tuesday, public taxi drivers (yellow), along with the General Union of Public Car Owners and Taxi Offices, carried out a sit-in in front of the Greater Amman Municipality building, to demand the disbursement of the fuel subsidy approved by the Council of Ministers for the transportation sector. The same sit-in is scheduled to take place on Tuesday of every week for two hours.

The head of the Independent Syndicate of Public Drivers, Muhammad Al-Taamari, refused in his interview with “Roya”, to dispense with the special support for drivers, amounting to 50 dinars per month for the driver, for a period of 15 months, indicating that one payment covering 3 months was received from them, calling for support for the transport sector at preferential prices. 50 percent of fuel, and a reduction in transportation fares.

Al-Tamari said that the fuel subsidy allowance has been paid to drivers in the governorates, except for vehicles operating in the capital, Amman, calling on the Greater Amman Municipality to pay dues to drivers in Amman.

Al-Taamari added that there are no allocations from the secretariat to disburse the support, and that the secretariat is awaiting a letter from the Ministry of Finance to disburse the financial dues.

The Municipality announced the date for the disbursement of fuel subsidies to the means of transport operating in the capital in early June.

The number of taxis in Amman has reached approximately 11,200 yellow taxis and about 5,400 service and coaster buses, according to figures from the Independent Union of Public Drivers.
