During the first half of this year, the Saudi Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) reduced the price of 391 types of medicines most commonly used by citizens, by a varying rate ranging from 2 percent to 47 percent.

The Director General of the Foundation, Prof. Dr. Nizar Mahmoud Muhaidat, indicated in a press statement that the citizen will see a reduction in the prices of medicines on the shelves of pharmacies during the current period and during the coming months when these medicines are imported.

Muhaidat explained that the medicines that have been affected by the reduction are several types of blood pressure, diabetes, heart medicines, antibiotics, medicines for respiratory diseases, nervous system diseases, bone and muscle medicines, and other medicines that are commonly used among groups of Jordanian society.

Muhaidat indicated that the price of 60 various medicinal products for diabetes has been reduced, 25 varieties of which are authentic and 35 are generic, 67 items for blood pressure and heart diseases, 21 of which are authentic and 46 are generic, and 89 types of antibiotics, 23 of which are authentic and 66 are generic, and 41 types of drugs for respiratory diseases, 12 of which are original and 29 are generic, and 108 types of drugs for the nervous system, 40 of which are authentic and 68 are generic, while the price of 26 items of bone and muscle medicine has been reduced, 12 of which are authentic and 14 are generic. .

Muhaidat pointed out that the drug price reduction program is one of the most important priorities of the institution, and it is a continuous work program based on a plan of action for the periodic review of drug prices and continuous reconsideration, noting that the institution seeks to reduce the prices of other treatment groups during the coming period, in order to ensure the promotion of Medicinal security and provision of medicines at affordable prices to citizens, in implementation of the royal directives in this regard.
