The World Bank agreed to provide a fourth additional grant for the Municipal Services and Social Adaptation Project in Jordan, at a value of $4.7 million, according to data that Al-Mamlaka TV said it had seen.

According to the data, the new grant aims to help Jordanian municipalities and host communities affected by the influx of Syrian refugees to enhance services and provide job opportunities for Jordanians and Syrians, and enhance their ability to support local economic development.

According to the World Bank, the project contributed to improving municipal services for more than 2.8 million direct beneficiaries, 20% of whom are Syrian refugees and 47% are women.

The project also provided more than 27,400 temporary work days, and it is expected that this number will exceed 110,000 work days when the project is closed, according to the data reviewed by the “Kingdom”.

The Bank approved the project in its first financing in October 2013 with a grant of $52.7 million, followed by the first additional financing grant of $10.8 million in December 2016, then the second additional financing grant of $30 million in December 2017, and the third additional financing grant of $30 million. $8.8 million in August 2020.

Jordan has hosted more than 1.3 million Syrians since the beginning of the Syrian crisis in 2011, including 660,000 Syrian refugees registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The project builds on the Emergency Services and Social Resilience Project, which was launched in 2014 with the aim of supporting municipalities affected by the influx of Syrian refugees in restoring the level and quality of municipal services to the pre-crisis level.

In addition to the financing provided by the project, the total financing grants covered 28 Jordanian municipalities, and the cumulative financing portfolio exceeded more than $100 million through the support of several donors.

A sub-objective of the project is to support infrastructure such as parks, playgrounds, public and green spaces, street sidewalks, solid waste management, sanitation and flood protection systems, energy efficiency measures (such as solar street lighting), and provision of solid waste service delivery equipment and other services. .
