During the launch of 19 electronic services in Irbid last Thursday, the Minister of Digital Economy, Ahmed Al-Hananda, revealed that about 25,000 people deliver restaurant orders to homes.
In turn, the insurance and social protection expert, Musa Al-Subaihi, asked why (25) thousand delivery workers are deprived of insurance?
Al-Subaihi said in a post on Facebook, that he surveyed dozens of professionals in the field of delivering orders to restaurants and others to homes and offices, and at intermittent intervals, about their participation in the guarantee, and that they answered him in the negative.
Al-Subaihi added, “The vast majority of workers in the field of “delivery” work within applications of companies specialized in this field, and the time has come, in light of the expansion of job creation based on smart applications “digital jobs”, for the social protection umbrella to extend to all these workers, so do not leave none of them outside.”
It is believed that “the guarantee institution is not oblivious to the issue of the delivery workers, but until today no solutions and understandings have been reached that obligate the inclusion of this large and growing number of workers in this sector.”
Official data indicates that the government approved the licensing of 6 smart transportation applications that serve nearly 13,000 Jordanians, while the number of unlicensed applications is estimated at 28 applications that operate most of their services from outside Jordan.
He referred to the incident that a delivery employee was exposed to while carrying out his work during a snow storm that struck the country in early 2015, the late young man “Abu Khadija” and led to his death, as the guarantee institution took the initiative to follow up on the matter and he was registered with the guarantee because he was discontinued and then joined a job in the field of delivery with A restaurant company, and the death pension resulting from a work injury was allocated to his family.
Al-Subaihi explained that “delivery workers receive wages and work within the framework of applications made available to them by specialized companies, with coordination, follow-up and supervision from them, and some of them work long hours and sometimes in difficult climatic conditions, and they are exposed to road accidents and their risks as a result of working for long periods and under pressure to deliver requests on time, and therefore they are Among the workers most in need of social security and organizing their work in accordance with the provisions of the Labor Law as well.”
The Land Transport Regulatory Authority collects an annual fee of 100,000 dinars from each company that is allowed to transport through smart applications for the license or its renewal if the number of its cars does not exceed 3,000, and 70 dinars for each car that exceeds that, and it also collects an amount of 400 dinars for the permit. of every vehicle running on those applications.
