The Council of the Journalists Syndicate condemned the incident of burning a copy of the Noble Qur’an, which was carried out by an extremist at the Stockholm Central Mosque in Sweden, immediately after the blessed Eid al-Adha prayer.
In a statement today, Sunday, the Council affirmed that this cowardly act cannot be accepted with any justification, and is included among the acts that clearly incite hatred, exclusion and racism.
He expressed his total rejection of these acts against the holiest religious sanctities (the Holy Qur’an), calling for the perpetrator to be tried and held accountable and the most severe penalties against him and against anyone who begged himself to transgress against God’s sanctities.
The Council affirmed that this act contradicts international efforts seeking to spread the values of tolerance, moderation, and rejection of extremism, calling for the need to confront such offensive acts, respect religious symbols, and work to spread and promote a culture of peace and acceptance of the other.
The Council called on the Swedish government to bear the consequences of remaining silent about such practices and the need to differentiate between freedom of expression and intellectual terrorism and not to repeat them due to their danger to the future of countries and generations.
