The Minister of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Sites, and the head of the Jordanian Hajj missions to the Holy Land, Muhammad Al-Khalayleh, said on Friday that the Hajj and Umrah companies and the ministry did not make any mistake in the crisis of the pilgrims stranded at Queen Alia International Airport.
In a statement to Al-Mamlaka TV, the minister said that the ministry will investigate and take the necessary action if it learns that one of the Hajj companies sold the tickets, adding, “There is no Hajj company that sold a ticket on this day, corresponding to the 5th of Dhu al-Hijjah.”
Pilgrims complained that they were prevented from traveling through Royal Jordanian Airlines to perform the Hajj.
The minister referred to the communication with the pilgrims stranded at the airport in Amman, most of whom were booked for them through Saudi Airlines, and many of them have arrived at Jeddah airport now, and he said that he communicated with some pilgrims and some of them bought the ticket from the Royal Jordanian in the “online” way.
The head of the Religious Tourism Committee in the Association of Travel and Tourism Agents, Iyad Al-Deek, confirmed via “The Kingdom” on Friday that the one who bears responsibility for the stranded pilgrims and the money they paid in the event of canceling their trips is the one who issued the tickets for them, knowing that the instructions contradict their travel.
As for the CEO and General Manager of the Royal Jordanian Company, Samer Majali, he confirmed to “The Kingdom” that the last day for pilgrims to travel via foreign (non-Saudi) airlines is June 22, according to Saudi instructions.
Regarding the number of pilgrims stranded at the airport, Majali said: “Those who have this problem are 30-40 people present at the airport today, and royal flights operate to Saudi Arabia, but it is forbidden to carry anyone who has a Hajj visa.”
Al-Majali indicated that tickets are returned to those who were unable to travel due to the ban, according to Saudi instructions.
The minister spoke about stopping the transportation of pilgrims via all international lines to Saudi Arabia after the 5th of Dhu al-Hijjah, and said that “Royal Jordanian sells tickets as a traveler to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, not as a pilgrim, and here is the defect.”
