Former Minister Bassam al-Amoush denounced the calls for the establishment and licensing of casinos in Aqaba and the Dead Sea, pointing out that these calls violate the constitution, which stipulates in Article Two that Islam is the religion of the state, and therefore these sites clearly and explicitly violate the teachings of religion.

Al-Amoush said in a video clip that all economic experts agree that gambling money is corrupt money, as there is no effort and production in it, but it depends on luck, and therefore Islam prohibits the money that is obtained from gambling and other games that take place in casinos.

And between Al-Amoush, that some officials who swore and put their hands on the book of God Almighty, not to violate the constitution, are now calling for the establishment of the casino, in violation of what was stated in the Noble Qur’an.

He pointed out that surrounding countries have licensed casinos, but the economy of these countries is collapsing today and suffering from inflation and currency depreciation, pointing out that anything forbidden by God is destruction for people, as gambling prohibited by law will not save the country’s economy.

And the former minister considered that calls for licensing casinos are an explicit call for immorality, which God, Blessed and Exalted be He, warned us against. It is not permissible for a Muslim to call for licensing these sites that are extremely dangerous to society, its values and its economy.

The Public Prosecutor called for swift action to hold accountable those who called for licensing these sites, which violate the constitution, law and religion, calling on those people to repent to God Almighty.

Al-Amoush also called on all holders of Sharia certificates, including the Chief Justice, the Grand Mufti, the Minister of Awqaf, the deans of Sharia faculties, the muftis, the preachers, and the guides, to explain the dangers of this evil, and Islam asked us to deny the evil.

In turn, the writer and economic analyst refuted the calls for the opening and licensing of casinos as a savior for the economy, considering that “there is no basis for the so-called “casino economy,” and it is not true what is being promoted as an urgent necessity for the economy.

And Al-Darawi stated in his article that “some countries, such as Turkey, took a decision to close casinos about 15 years ago, for purely economic, political, social and security reasons, which have nothing to do with religion as some imagine.”

He added, “The existence of the casino means that there is a close connection with the spread of some forms of crime, prostitution, drugs and money laundering. This is due to several factors, including the attraction of a diverse segment of society: visitors to the casino range from ordinary locals to the rich and famous, and this may attract some criminals as well.

He pointed out that “some criminals can use the casino to launder their money or launder their illegally acquired money, by opening bank accounts and depositing their money in them.”

Also, casino promotes addiction, gambling games can lead to addiction, and thus some people may become interested in generating income from illegal sources.

“The casino can encourage some other criminal activities, such as prostitution and drugs,” he added. If the existence of the casino was an economic necessity, countries in the world would race to license and establish it in every place and every street, knowing that it does not provide large and unprecedented financial returns as some promote, but what happens is the exact opposite, as most countries license casinos in a very limited way, and in places Far, specific and within a narrow framework.
