Health launches the National Breastfeeding Campaign

The Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the US Agency for International Development, the Nutrition and Community Health Project and the Royal Health Awareness Society, launched a national campaign aimed at improving the nutrition of pregnant women, infants and young children and improving family planning practices for the postpartum period.

The campaign was launched in the Sports City in Amman, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health for Primary Health Care and Epidemiology, Dr. Raed Al-Shboul, on behalf of the Minister of Health, under the slogan “6 months by adopting an age.” It aims to raise awareness, promote positive behaviors, and encourage the adoption of absolute breastfeeding practices.

The five-week campaign will reach pregnant women and mothers of infants, in addition to husbands, grandfathers and grandmothers, because of their vital role in supporting the woman who is breastfeeding. During this period, campaign advertisements will be broadcast on local television and radio channels, as well as on communication platforms. Social and external and internal advertising sites.

Al-Shboul said in a speech during the launch ceremony of the campaign, “The Ministry included in its strategy for the years (2023-2025), which it launched 3 months ago, a special axis for improving the level of primary and preventive health care services, and through this axis it included many projects related to women’s and children’s health.”

He added that among the most prominent of these projects related to women’s and children’s health is taking care of monitoring maternal deaths and taking measures to reduce them, programs for early detection of breast and cervical cancer, and smoking cessation clinics for the population in general, and for women in particular, due to their importance in preserving the health of women and children. and the Women’s Friendly Health Centers Program.

He explained that within the framework related to women’s and children’s health, the focus is on breastfeeding, which is considered one of the most important life-saving nutritional health practices, helping to support the cognitive development of infants, increasing their immunity against diseases, and reducing the risk of malnutrition in the early stages of their lives. The risk of obesity, diabetes and allergies later, and it also contributes to reducing the possibility of breast and ovarian cancer for mothers in the pre-menopausal stage.

He referred to the efforts made by the Ministry of Health to support, promote and encourage breastfeeding and activate the role of breastfeeding counselors in their work centers, so that they can support mothers and enable them to continue breastfeeding, and provide assistance if they encounter any problem during the various stages, starting from pregnancy care to childbirth and postpartum care. Child.

Al-Shboul appreciated the efforts made by the Nutrition and Community Health Project funded by the US Agency for International Development regarding the design of an integrated program for the preparation of breastfeeding counselors and their efforts in preparing, preparing and launching this campaign.

For her part, Bathni Haber, Director of the Health and Population Office at the US Agency for International Development in Jordan, said that this campaign is the first of its kind in Jordan, and seeks to raise awareness of the benefits of absolute breastfeeding for the first six months, not only among mothers, but also among fathers, grandfathers, grandmothers, and caregivers. Health services and everyone who is a support for new parents who receive their newborn, and she added that by raising awareness, the campaign will encourage friends and families to support new parents to make the best decision, which is the option of absolute breastfeeding.

This campaign comes in response to the growing need to improve outcomes related to the health of pregnant women and children in Jordan.
