Jordan is distinguished this week by an astronomical event, which is the alignment of the planets “Saturn, Neptune, Jupiter, Uranus and Mercury,” according to the head of the Jordanian Astronomical Society, Ammar Al-Sakji.

Al-Sakji said, on Saturday, that the astronomical event can be followed from today until several days, as the best time to observe this alignment is before sunrise, according to Jordan time, during the days of this week.

He added, that the alignment that occurs in the east can be monitored, and Saturn and Jupiter can be seen with the naked eye, by looking to the east before sunrise, while the rest of the planets need a telescope to view them, and the best place to watch these phenomena is in areas with less light pollution, such as rural and desert areas such as Petra and Wadi. Rum, and as it is known that the planet does not have a flash like a star, and the brightest celestial body in the sky at the time of this event is Jupiter, as it can be easily inferred.

And he continued, that this phenomenon begins with the planet Saturn, as it rises after midnight and begins early in its sunrise until 11:30 pm, according to Jordan time, during the coming days, and it will be in the east, and thus Saturn will be the first planet to rise in the sky in the constellation Aquarius, then it will be followed by Neptune. It is in the neighboring constellation of Pisces and needs a telescope to monitor it, and the third is Jupiter, which is the largest planet in the solar system and is bright and easily visible to the naked eye. As for the planet Uranus, it is not visible to the naked eye and needs a telescope and is in the constellation of Aries. As for the last of them, it is Mercury, so it is low on the horizon and in the constellation Taurus and needs visual tools and astronomical skills to monitor it.

And he explained, that there is another distinguished alignment after sunset on Friday, June 23, where the moon, Mars and Venus (the icon of beauty and love) line up on one line extending in the sky in a stunning view to the west, and the moon is in the constellation of Leo, and Venus is in the constellation of cancer, where it catches cancer. It is in it with its claws, and the flower is above the cluster of the beehive cluster or the scattering, and this star cluster has been known since the time of Ptolemy, and the Arabs cared about it a lot in their poems “the lion spread his arms and then scattered.” Galileo monitored 40 stars in it using the telescope as Messiah classified it in his astronomical guide M44. It is 600 light years away from us, and its stars number about 1,000 brightly colored stars, which makes its observation in the sky of the Kingdom a special and beautiful event.

Monitoring it requires a telescope, as well as some skills, astronomical standards, and clear air, away from the light pollution of cities. The best places to monitor it are the rural and desert areas of Jordan, whether eastern or southern, such as the southern regions of Wadi Rum and Petra.

Al-Sakji stressed that this alignment has no effect on terrestrial events and the geophysics of the planet, such as earthquakes and others.
