The Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hanifat, warned of the danger of the consumer culture of foods, especially those that are held for social reasons such as banquets and others, indicating that they drain the resources of the poor country.
And the Minister of Agriculture estimated, in radio statements on Thursday morning, that about one million tons of food are thrown into the garbage annually, indicating that these foods deplete water resources, and others.
Hanifat explained that there are efforts to develop an initiative to work in an institutional manner, to raise awareness and educate in dealing with food waste, warning against food waste that takes place on various occasions, as it has become a “disgusting” phenomenon, as he described it.
He added, “Everyone is concerned with stopping this tampering with resources,” calling on everyone to unite in the campaign to stop food waste, to confront this unacceptable phenomenon.
He pointed out that the cost of foods that perish annually exceeds 150 million dinars, at the minimum, pointing out that this means wasting an integrated effort even before planting.
