On Tuesday, the Parliamentary Energy Committee discussed the issue of smart electric meters, in order to discuss reducing electrical losses, both technical and non-technical, as well as saving energy and providing appropriate solutions to the electrical network.
The head of the Parliamentary Energy and Mineral Resources Committee, Talal Ensour, said: Smart electric meters save a lot of effort and time, and are characterized by helping to obtain accurate results and the absence of error in the dates of taking the reading and avoiding human errors by remote reading, along with monitoring the occurrence of any A malfunction in the meter, and it also allows the subscriber to monitor his consumption in an almost instantaneous manner, and to identify and control the amount of consumption by adjusting the consumption pattern and following rationalization methods.
In turn, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Authority, Ziyad Al-Saaida, said: The number of smart meters installed so far has reached 600.
A thousand smart meters, in all governorates of the Kingdom, constitute 25 percent of the total service meters.
He explained that by the end of the year 2025, all meters in Jordan will be “smart,” noting that the first smart city in Jordan will be announced at the end of this year.
He stressed that the employees’ services will not be terminated due to the use of smart meters, as they will be distributed to other jobs in the future.
