The “Kan” channel affiliated with the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation revealed that both Jordan and the Israeli occupation are in contact with the aim of reaching a final “electricity-for-water” agreement, and John Kerry, responsible for the climate file in President Joe Biden’s administration, conducted earlier this month “Tel Aviv.” Talks with the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Israel Katz, on ways to reach an agreement, in the presence of the US Ambassador to Israel, Thomas Nides.
The Hebrew channel added that the Jordanians demand, within the framework of the agreement on this project, that the Israeli occupation commit to granting the Palestinian Authority a “goodwill gesture,” noting that it is not yet clear what the nature of this gesture will be, whether it is economic or security.
She added, however, that Kerry would present to Israeli officials the nature of the gesture that Amman is demanding to grant to the Palestinians in exchange for the completion of the project.

A broad popular and partisan refusal to sign the agreement in its initial form (a declaration of intent) that took place last November, between the Minister of Water, Muhammad al-Najjar, and the Minister of Regional Cooperation in the Israeli occupation government, Issawi Freij, during the government of the former occupation prime minister, Naftali Bennett, on the sidelines of the climate conference held in Sharm el-Sheikh. .
And Israeli media had indicated at the time that “Israel” plans to use the electric energy that it will get from Jordan to feed the settlements in the Negev region and the southern West Bank.
The agreement will be signed at the end of 2023
The channel expected the signing of the final agreement on “electricity in exchange for water” at the end of this year, during the “COP 28” climate conference, which will be held in Dubai, UAE, between November 30 and December 12.
And the Hebrew “Kan” pointed out that according to this agreement, Jordan will provide the Israeli occupation with electric energy produced by solar energy, in return for providing “Israel” Jordan with water produced by desalination facilities that will be launched on the Mediterranean basin.
She indicated that, according to the plan, Jordan will launch fields of solar energy panels in the southern desert, so that electricity will be transmitted from there to “Israel.”

A broad refusal and warning against signing the agreement

An expert in energy affairs, Eng. Amer Al-Shobaki, warned, “The energy-for-water agreement is dangerous for Jordanian security, and it is economically a loser. The occupation will reap 370 million dollars in electricity value in exchange for 200 million cubic meters of water, i.e. a meter that we buy for $1.85 or 1.3 dinars.”
Al-Shobaki demanded that the contents of the agreement, its terms and conditions be revealed, “before implicating the country.”
The state of tension began between Jordan and the occupation government after Jordan refused to join the so-called deal of the century that had been announced by former US President Donald Trump, in addition to Netanyahu’s cancellation of approval to provide Jordan with water, as stipulated in the Wadi Araba agreement, in addition to The repeated Israeli attacks on the holy places during his previous term, preventing Crown Prince Hussein from visiting Al-Aqsa Mosque, and other matters.
