The Department of General Iftaa elaborated, in response to a question received by it, about the types of sacrifice, and the number of sacrifices that the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, sacrificed.

The department said that the sacrifice in Hajj is of three types, the first of which is “the sacrifice of tamattu’ and the Qur’an. Whoever performs Hajj doing tamattu’ or qiran must slaughter the sacrifice, provided that he is not one of those present at the Sacred Mosque – that is, he is not from the people of the sanctuary and what is connected with it.”

As for the second type, it is the gift of confinement, and this type obliges “whoever performs Hajj and is prevented from completing the Hajj due to illness or an enemy that prevents him from the sanctuary.

The department invoked the Holy Quranic verse (and complete the Hajj and the Umrah for God’s sake. If the sacrifice is not in its place, then whoever of you is sick or has an injury from his head, then a ransom is from fasting, or alms, or sacrifices, and then he is safe. It is completed, so whoever enjoys performing the Umrah until the Hajj, and what is easy of the sacrifice is complete. So whoever cannot afford to fast for three days during the Hajj and seven days when you return, that is a full ten days. This is for those who are not eligible. They are present at the Sacred Mosque, and fear God, and know that God is severe in punishment).

The third type is the voluntary offering, and it is Sunnah to offer voluntary gifts from those who are able to the poor of the sanctuary, because God Almighty says in the noble verse: Uff, then when its sides are due, then eat of it and feed the contented and the contentious. Thus We subjected it to you that you might be grateful Allah attains its flesh or its blood, but piety attains Him from you. give glad tidings to the doers of good).

The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, drove one hundred camels during the Farewell Pilgrimage, of which he slaughtered sixty-three with his own hand, and Ali ibn Abi Talib completed the rest, as it was narrated on the authority of Jabir ibn Abdullah, may God be pleased with him, (that the camels that the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, sacrificed were one hundred a camel, he sacrificed sixty-three with his hand, and he sacrificed what was past, and the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, commanded a little from each camel. Aah, so it was put in a pot, then he drank from its broth).
