Jordan and Egypt signed a cooperation agreement to exploit the gas infrastructure in the two countries, according to which the Egyptian side will use the floating storage and gasification unit in Aqaba during the remaining period of the floating vessel charter contract.

The agreement was signed on the Jordanian side by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, and on the Egyptian side, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Eng. Tariq Al-Mulla.

The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said in a press statement that the agreement comes within the framework of joint cooperation between the governments of the two countries in the energy sector, in light of government directives and within the framework of the Jordan Electricity Company’s plan to reduce the operating costs of the Jordanian electrical system and enhance the security of energy supply in the two countries.

For his part, the Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, said that the main objective of the agreement is to benefit from the resources of the two countries with higher efficiency and lower cost, indicating that the use of the floating ship in Aqaba will be until the end of the ship’s charter contract by the end of 2025, after which the gasification unit will be used. beach, which is currently implemented by the Ministry.

The Jordanian minister explained that his ministry is currently in the stage of issuing bids for this unit, and that during the next two months a vision will be made about the extent to which the designs meet the needs of the two countries.

The agreement includes supplying the Jordanian side with liquefied natural gas from Egypt, and re-pumping part of the quantities of natural gas when needed to Egypt, through pipelines extending between the two countries.

Earlier, the German company, Wintershall Dea, announced a new discovery of natural gas within the Disuq concession in the onshore Nile Delta region, as operations focused on the new exploration well (NSG-3) in the Abu Madi reservoir, and this discovery comes after a previous discovery of the company in The excavation area in eastern Damanhour, last January.

The Desouq gas project is operated by Disoco, a joint venture between Wintershall Dea and the Egyptian Gas Holding Company (EGAS). They use the infrastructure in Desouq located near the discovered well, which is connected to the national natural gas network.

“The new reserves added will have a positive impact on the continuity of production in Disouq,” Olaf Ritz, the general manager of the joint venture, “Disoco,” confirmed.
