Al-Bawsala – Cattle traders and Qatari import and export companies said today, Saturday, that they are preparing to import large quantities of sacrificial sheep for the blessed Eid Al-Adha, from Jordan.
In statements to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), they stressed that the sheep imported from Jordan are characterized by high quality specifications and standards, which makes them witness a great demand by Qatari citizens and a wide segment of consumers in the Qatari market.
This comes within the framework of the Qatari market’s early preparations to receive Eid Al-Adha, and to ensure the availability of the market’s need for sacrificial sheep to meet the expected demand in light of the insufficient local sheep for the volume of consumption.
Sheep trader Abdul Muttalib Al-Naeem said that the Qatari market prefers Jordanian sheep, along with a few other types of sheep that the country imports from abroad, especially from some countries in the region such as Turkey, Syria and Sudan.
He pointed out that Jordanian sheep are of high quality and their meat is desirable to most segments of Qatari society, especially Qatari citizens, in addition to being distinguished at reasonable prices compared to many other types imported from abroad.
Livestock dealers and import and export companies in Qatar are keen every year to provide the local market’s need for sacrificial sheep of good quality and at reasonable prices, although the Qatari Ministry of Commerce and Industry puts forward an initiative for citizens every year to provide their need for sacrificial sheep at preferential, subsidized prices.
For his part, merchant Awad Al-Hassan, who runs a company engaged in the import of livestock in the Qatari market, said that Qatar’s need for sacrificial sheep during Eid Al-Adha every year is estimated at 100,000 sheep, explaining that most of this quantity is imported from abroad, especially from abroad. Jordan, Syria and Sudan, in addition to the quantities produced locally, and those that are refrigerated and frozen imported of all kinds.
Al-Hassan believes that the high demand for Jordanian sheep in particular is due to their distinguished quality and good prices, which are generally within the reach of various segments of consumers.
He pointed out that the expected prices of Jordanian sheep during the upcoming Eid Al-Adha range between 1,200-1,400 riyals ($329.6-384.6) for sheep whose size ranges between 30-40 kg, indicating that these prices have increased by 25 percent over their rates during the corresponding period of the year. the past.
Recently, the Qatari Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with the government-run Widam Food Company, launched a national initiative to encourage local production and subsidize sheep meat prices for Eid Al-Adha.
Under this initiative, about 30,000 heads of local and imported sacrificial sheep will be provided to citizens this year, to be sold at subsidized and reduced prices, at the rate of two sheep for each citizen, as the price of the local sheep is 900 riyals, while the price of the imported sheep reaches 800 riyals.
According to the Qatari Ministry of Commerce and Industry, this step comes within the framework of its keenness to encourage and support livestock breeders in order to increase local production of sheep, and protect the commercial and economic environment in the country, to ensure a balanced supply and demand equation, which contributes to price stability in the markets and citizens’ access to fresh red meat. affordable.
