Former MP and member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Musa Al-Wahsh, said that economic cooperation between Jordan and Turkey is not new, but the political situation in the region and the region in general played a role in the advancement or decline of these relations or cooperation.
In a statement to Al-Bawsala, Al-Wahsh indicated that freedoms in Turkey and true democracy are not to the liking of many Arab countries, and therefore Turkish-Arab economic cooperation continued to proceed cautiously, with justifications, some of which are acceptable and others are unacceptable.
He pointed out that some Arab countries used to justify the low level of economic cooperation with Ankara by saying that the trade balance tends in favor of Turkey, albeit by a small percentage, given that the equation is not balanced.
However, according to Al-Wahsh, these justifications are apparent, and if we want to compare the volume of trade between Arab countries and Europe, the difference is very large, indicating that the success of the Justice and Development Party and the return of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will give greater openness with Turkey, because the interest requires that there be cooperation. .
He stressed that this experience was imposed by the Turkish people and re-elected Erdogan as president, although the world tried to thwart his experiment and get rid of it, but the strong will prevented that, due to the real achievements on the ground.
Regarding the extent to which the Jordanian economy has benefited from Turkey, Al-Wahsh referred to the Jordanians’ investments there, in large numbers, because Turkey has an Arab and Islamic depth, especially with the ruling party’s orientations, and it may be one of the main reasons for cooperation.
The former deputy considered that the lack of economic cooperation with Turkey represents a “tweet outside the flock,” because the current situation is towards the direction of cooperation for many countries, including the Gulf states.
“The economic relationship will not be personal, but rather a relationship between peoples who are moving towards economic and political cooperation with Turkey,” he added.
