“We are in the snow, sweetness,” is the sentence written on her Arabic and she always repeats it during her work, and she became famous for it in her region until they called her the Snow Queen. Behind this title is a story of struggle that she started since her childhood.

Umm Mustafa, or Al-Hajja, is the most famous ice seller in the Al-Hawamdiya area. Behind her fame and success is a story she told Al-Youm Al-Sabea, where she said, “When I was young, I worked in snow with my family, and I used to work with my mother and sell ice to her while we were at home. For people in the shops, and when I had 15 years left, I got married, and our Lord honored me with two children, and then my husband died, and I was still young.

Umm Mustafa did not accept her circumstances that forced her to be alone and take responsibility after the death of her husband. She decided to give up the dress of femininity and put on the dress of men and enter the labor market. She started selling ice and delivering orders to shops and merchants herself.

And the Snow Queen, Umm Mustafa, added, “I used to rent a tuk-tuk or any transportation, and carry snow on it and sell it to people in the shops and in the market. I used to carry 23 kilos of snow on my shoulder so that I could spend on my children until our Lord honored me. Praise be to God, I bought the first cart to transport the goods and called it the need.” Like we used to call out to my mother.”

“The need to ride the cart…the need to ride the jumbo” is the sentence that was repeated by the people of the area and the streets adjacent to it, after Umm Mustafa decided to buy a cart, load the goods on it, and deliver it to the merchants, and she said, “Despite all the words I heard, I didn’t care about anyone.” And I always go downstairs and learn to drive and drive in Arabic, and I get carried away and carry the Arabic and go to sell the goods.”

And she added, “Our Lord does not waste anyone’s fatigue, and praise be to God. A source of livelihood, now when women and people on the street see me, they say we are like you.”
