Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Azmi Muhafaza, stressed on Thursday the necessity of developing Jordanian-Iraqi relations in the field of higher education, exchanging experiences in the field of accreditation, especially for medical colleges, and increasing opportunities for exchanging visits by faculty members and students between the two countries.
During his reception at the Ministry’s headquarters, the Iraqi Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Head of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, Naeem Al-Aboudi, the governorate referred to the depth of the historical brotherly relations that bind Jordan and brotherly Iraq.
He praised what Iraq provided to Arab students in general and Jordanian students in particular, pointing out that there is a memorandum of understanding between the two sides that was updated and signed in the year (2021), with the need to build on it to develop more cooperation between the two parties in the future.
He also pointed out that there are thousands of Iraqi students studying in the Kingdom’s schools, in addition to the official and private Jordanian higher education institutions, and on the other hand, there are Jordanian students who are also studying in Iraqi universities.
The Iraqi Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research said that Iraq and Jordan have historical and geographical fraternal ties by virtue of Arabism and neighborhood, which reflected positively on political and diplomatic relations.
He touched on Iraq’s launch of the “Study in Iraq” portal, which offers scholarships to Jordanian students who wish to study in Iraqi universities, including university fees and housing.
He stressed the necessity of developing cooperation between the two parties in the field of scientific research, and exchanging expertise and experiences between the two sides in particular, and at the Arab level in general, to reach integration in scientific research, to meet the challenges that occur in the world.
He also praised the development taking place in the nuclear field in Jordan, stressing his desire to expand the scope of cooperation and exchange of experiences in the field of peaceful nuclear energy.
The Iraqi delegation visited the subcritical nuclear system on the campus of the Jordan University of Science and Technology, where the delegation listened to an explanation of the work and principle of operating the subcritical nuclear system, which aims to provide an opportunity for students of the Nuclear Engineering Department to conduct some experiments to study the physics of nuclear reactors in a safe environment, in addition to To the existence of special procedures systems for the system to ensure compliance with the highest standards of nuclear safety and security in this facility.
The meeting was attended by the Iraqi national liaison officer with the International Atomic Energy Agency, Majed Al-Saadi, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Amman, Munif Ali Hussein, and the Iraqi cultural attache, Wasim Al-Tamimi. On the Jordanian side, the head of the Jordanian Atomic Energy Commission, Khaled Touqan, and the director of the Education Council Secretariat, attended the meeting. Higher Education Minister Shadi Musa’da, and the media advisor to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Ministry Spokesman Muhannad Al-Khatib.
