The National Campaign for Student Rights “You Slaughtered Us” expressed its dissatisfaction with the results of admission to master’s programs in the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Science and Technology.

According to “You Slaughter Us,” the results showed that only thirteen Jordanian students were accepted out of thirty-six seats, as the rest of the seats were distributed among different Arab and foreign nationalities.

In a statement, the campaign demanded:compassThe Ministry of Higher Education intervened and took a serious stance against the persistence of university administrations in the privatization approach and restricting education to the most financially capable.

She pointed out that the hourly fees for foreign students are more than four times the fees of Jordanian students, which apparently encouraged the university administration to take this decision, forgetting that this university is an official university and its mission is to provide educational services to citizens at the lowest prices, if not for free.

The campaign coordinator, Dr. Fakher Daas, commented, wondering if public universities are not available to Jordanians, so where should they complete their education?

Daas added, through his Facebook account, “Is it possible that we deprive outstanding university graduates from completing their studies and give priority to material interests over citizens’ rights?!!”

He demanded that master’s students in dentistry be exempted, just like medical students, and not obligated to pay fees exceeding five thousand dinars annually, with limited seats.

“Zahbatona” warned of what it called the dangerous acceleration in the privatization of our public universities, especially the medical faculties in the Jordanian Universities of Science and Technology, the Hashemite Universities, and the Yarmouk Universities.

It called on the Ministry of Higher Education to play its role in restoring matters to normal by increasing the number of Jordanians admitted to postgraduate studies, so that they would return and constitute the vast majority of those accepted.
