Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya said that reform and rehabilitation centers adopt the philosophy of reform and rehabilitation as an approach and goal instead of the theory of punishment.
Al-Faraya stressed, in a statement, the importance of the role that reform and rehabilitation centers play within the highest standards of professionalism in humanitarian work, and follow modern and systematic reform methods with well-studied plans that provide optimal care for inmates inside reform and rehabilitation centers.
This came during Al-Faraya’s visit to the Swaqa Correction and Rehabilitation Center, in which he listened to a briefing given by the center’s director about the most important duties and tasks carried out by the center’s management and salaries within the plan of the Public Security Directorate in managing reform and rehabilitation centers. The facilities and services it provides, and the mechanism for dealing with the inmate from the moment of his arrival at the correctional center until his departure, in a manner consistent with human rights and the preservation of his dignity and within the system of legislation and controls that the Department of the Public Security Apparatus works to implement.
He was briefed on the most important achievements of the center expansion project, which came with the aim of alleviating the burden of overcrowding, in which work began at the beginning of this year 2023, and the completion rate in it reached 27%, as its capacity is estimated at 480 inmates, and this project is expected to be completed in June. next year, according to the statement.
Al-Faraya toured the center’s facilities to see the reality of the services that are provided to the inmates, during which he inspected the academic education facilities, training and rehabilitation projects, and the craft workshops that work within the vocational training programs, and which the repair centers are interested in in the fields of carpentry, blacksmithing, aluminum works, painting and veneering vehicles. Al-Faraya was accompanied on his tour by the Assistant Director of Public Security for Judicial Affairs, Brigadier General Muhammad Tabishat, the Director of the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation Centers, Brigadier General Falah Al-Majali, and the Director of the Correction and Rehabilitation Center of Swaqa, Colonel Ghazi Al-Raoud.
