“This was the first time for me,” Issa told CNN in Arabic. “It seems that the lion cub was curious during the trip, as he sat on a chair next to me.”

After a long career as a photojournalist since the 1990s, in 2015 an ornithologist encouraged Hajj Issa to venture out and explore the world of wildlife photography, with a particular focus on the world of birds.

The Algerian photographer realized that photography would form a part of his life since his adolescence, when his father’s friend, a professional Belgian photographer, gave him a camera when he was 15 years old.
