Jordan celebrates World Environment Day

Jordan will join the countries of the world, on Monday, in celebrating World Environment Day, under the slogan: “Beat_Plastic_Pollution”.

The United Nations launched this slogan for the current year, which marks the 50th anniversary of the first United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, the Stockholm Conference in 1972, which resulted in the establishment of the United Nations Environment Program and the designation of June 5 of each year as World Environment Day, to show absolute support for the protection of human resources. environment with its various components.

The Ministry of Environment said, in a statement issued on Sunday, that it joins the world in celebrating World Environment Day, to highlight the need to live sustainably in harmony with nature by making changes to policies and choices towards cleaner lifestyles and free of pollutants.

The Ministry’s activities will include the launch by the Minister of Environment, Muawiyah Al-Radaydah, of the activities of the national campaign for public cleanliness, which included all the governorates of the Kingdom, with the participation of all official and private concerned authorities, in addition to broadcasting environmental messages and videos, through its official websites and social networking sites for directorates in the governorates, and television interviews and broadcasting environmental awareness messages. Through Jordanian radio and television, in addition to emphasizing the activation of the provisions and axes of Waste Management Framework Law No. 16 of 2020, announcing the results and distributing prizes to school students who won first places in the environmental competitions launched by the Ministry of Environment in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, which included all schools in the Kingdom.

In the statement, Al-Radaydah explained that Jordan is committed to working with all international and local partners to address climate and nature crises, preserve and rehabilitate the environment, and defeat plastic pollution, in line with national commitments within international agreements to confront the three planetary crises: climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. .

Al-Radaida stressed the importance of serious and sustainable work from all sides, to preserve the environment and confront these crises, pointing out that nature suffers from the scourge of plastic pollution, as is the case with the seabed and oceans, forest fires, high temperatures, logging, deforestation and catastrophic floods. The destructive and over hunting of animals and birds, which affected and continues to negatively affect biodiversity.

He said that the ministry, in partnership with all national and international agencies and institutions, has taken many effective measures to protect environmental systems in general and from the danger of plastic pollution in particular, and to rehabilitate them in the Kingdom, to achieve best practices to preserve the human environment, including several guidelines on Global Environmental Governance.
