We are ready to support the food industry to overcome any obstacles

Today, Monday, the Director General of the Institution for Standards and Metrology, Eng. Abeer Barakat Al-Zuhair, stressed the importance of the food industry sector and the institution’s readiness to provide all support for this vital sector and support it to overcome any obstacles it may face.

This came during its sponsorship of an interactive meeting hosted by the Foundation on the occasion of International Metrology Day, with the participation of representatives from the food industry sector and the Jordan Chamber of Industry.

Al-Zuhair indicated that the global slogan for this year “Measurements support the global food system” comes in light of the growing need for metrology services in the food sector to keep pace with the developments the world is witnessing and the challenges posed by them in the food sector, which increases the importance of metrology for its development.

For his part, the representative of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Laith Al-Dahleh, praised the institution’s efforts in supporting the industry in general, and the food industries in particular, pointing to its great cooperation in guiding manufacturers and rehabilitating factories to open more international markets for the Jordanian product, by adhering to standard specifications and technical rules, and issuing certificates. Conformity to products for export, in addition to the sector’s participation in technical committees to prepare specifications.

The audience watched a documentary film about the Standards Directorate, which included an explanation of the directorate’s work and services. The head of the pre-packaged packages department, Muhammad Alwan, gave a briefing in which he explained the institution’s role in providing metrological support to the food sectors.

The Director of the Certificates of Conformity Directorate, Eng. Baraa Al-Hiyari, gave a presentation on the importance of metrology in issuing conformity certificates.

She pointed out that the Foundation granted the Jordanian Quality Mark to 27 food products for 12 companies, and also granted 71 products the Halal certificate to 19 companies.

During the meeting, a discussion took place between the attendees and those concerned in the institution about their vision to improve the work of the food industry sector, ways to increase cooperation between the two sides, and the importance of consolidating the participatory approach for the advancement of the sector.
