US authorities have convicted a man in connection with the theft of the ruby-red shoes worn by actress Judy Garland when she played Dorothy in the famous movie “The Wizard of Oz” in 1939, nearly 20 years after it was stolen from a museum in Minnesota.
The court charged Terry John Martin with stealing a large artwork from the custody of a museum, “according to case documents submitted to the United States District Court of Minnesota. Court documents revealed that the value of the slippers was no less than $100,000, according to CNN Arabia.

In August 2005, authorities announced that a thief had broken into the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, before smashing a glass display case and stealing the shoes. Investigators said at the time they had no evidence, except for sequins that fell from one of the slippers.

Significant progress was made in the case 13 years later, when officials recovered the slippers during a covert operation in Minneapolis, and none of the suspects were arrested. Dakota, estimated her current worth at $3.5 million.
It is not known how many pairs of ruby slippers Garland wore during filming, though the stolen shoes were among four remaining. Newly opened in Los Angeles.
