It ranked 12th in the Arab world as the most efficient port
Aqaba Container Port, in southern Jordan, ranked 57th globally out of 348, as the most efficient ports in the world for the year 2022, according to the container port performance index developed by the World Bank and market information issued by Standard & Poor’s International Agency.
The global index, a copy of which the “Kingdom” received, shows that the port of Aqaba “decreased 22 ranks” compared to its global ranking in the year 2021. The dock after the goods have been loaded or unloaded.

The area of Aqaba Container Port is 500,000 square meters, while the area of storage yards is 450,000 square meters, containing 800 electric cooling points, according to the website of the Aqaba Container Port Company.
The Port Ranking aims to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement for the benefit of key stakeholders in global trade, including governments, shipping lines, port and cargo terminal operators, shipping companies, logistics companies, and consumers.
The Chinese port of Yangshan ranked first in the port classification, despite what it witnessed from a period of severe disturbances caused by typhoons, in addition to other factors that occurred in 2022.
The data provided by the index indicates that the development in the digital transformation of port operations and the modernization of its infrastructure would raise the level of productivity, customer service and reduce harmful emissions.

In 2005, the container port was ranked as one of the three best ports in the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent, according to the Lloyd’s Prize announcement.
In 2010, His Majesty King Abdullah II inaugurated the expansion of the Aqaba Container Port berth, to increase the volume of freight traffic and the transportation of goods in the port.
In 2013, Aqaba Container Port achieved the highest total container handling (872,810 TEUs), at the time it completed the berth expansion to 1,000 meters, while the total handling volume reached 857,283 TEUs in 2020.
In 2015, Aqaba Container Port was nominated for the finalists of the Lloyd’s Award for the Best Port Operator category and the Environment Award for Hutchison Port Holdings Limited in recognition of its efforts in these areas.
In 2016, it was awarded the ISO 14001 Certification for its Comprehensive Environmental Management System, won the IBM Terminals Award for Best Performance in Global Safety, and was a finalist for the Lloyds Safety Award for the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent in the “Safety” category, and the Hutchison Port Company Award Holdings Ltd. for the “Environmental” category, and the “Best Port Operator” award.
In 2017, it was again nominated for the final round for each of the Lloyds Award for Best Port Operator, the Hutchinson Port Holdings Limited Award for the Environment and the Safety Award, and the Aqaba Container Port Company won recognition for the Excellence Awards in the field of Arab transport and the “Most Sustainable Port Development” award.
In 2018, Aqaba Container Terminal won the Terminal Operator award at Lloyd’s South Asia, Middle East and Africa.
In 2019, it received a renewal of its ISO 14001:2015 certification for its comprehensive environmental management system, and was a finalist for the Lloyd’s Prize for the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent for both the “Infrastructure and Port Management” award and the “Environmental Award.”
In 2020, he was awarded the “Champion of the New Way of Working” award launched by IBM Ports for International Container Terminals.
