The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned, on Thursday, allowing a member of the Israeli government, members of the Knesset and extremists to storm Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif, and the accompanying provocative actions are rejected, and under the protection of the Israeli police.

In a statement, the ministry warned of an exacerbation of the situation in light of allowing the provocative and escalatory march in occupied Jerusalem, stressing that Israel has no sovereignty over Jerusalem and the holy sites, and that East Jerusalem is an occupied Palestinian land.

The ministry’s spokesman, Ambassador Sinan Majali, confirmed that the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by a member of the Israeli government and members of the Knesset, and the continued incursions of extremists and their provocative actions, which are carried out with the protection of the Israeli police, is a violation of the historical and legal status quo, and of international law.

And he stressed that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Qudsi Al-Sharif, with its entire area of 144 dunums, is a pure place of worship for Muslims, and that the Jordanian Department of the Jerusalem Endowments and the Affairs of the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque is the legal authority with exclusive jurisdiction to manage the affairs of the sanctuary and regulate entry to it.

The Ministry’s spokesman called on Israel, in its capacity as the occupying power, to desist from all practices and violations against the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to respect its sanctity, stressing the need to stop all measures aimed at changing the existing historical and legal situation, and to respect the authority of the Jerusalem Endowment Administration and the affairs of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
