Activist Abu al-Baraa al-Hourani said, in an interview with Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, that “dozens of text messages arrived on Tuesday to a significant number of those accused of promoting and smuggling drugs in the governorates of As-Suwayda and Daraa, in the south of the country, calling on them to surrender to the Jordanian border guards.” That “the letter included threats that, in the event of failure to comply with orders, the fate of those who work in the promotion, trade and smuggling of drugs will be the fate of Marai Al-Ramthan.”
On May 8, Marai al-Ramthan, one of the largest drug dealers in southern Syria, was killed in an air strike that was likely carried out by the Jordanian Air Force on his house in the village of al-Sha’ab, southeast of As-Suwayda Governorate.
According to Al-Hourani, “the text messages also include threats to know the locations of all drug dealers in the region, and that the Jordanian Air Force is ready to carry out new strikes inside Syria at any time,” noting that the text of the last message was “Al-Ramathan will not be the last.” The Jordanian Armed Forces – the Arab Army,” explaining that “all the messages were from an unknown number.”
Al-Hourani pointed out that the Syrian regime forces raided, during the past two days, locations where two of the largest drug dealers in southern Syria are located.
He explained that the first person targeted in the raid was Abu Salem al-Khalidi, who works for the “Fourth Division” led by Maher al-Assad, brother of the head of the Syrian regime, Bashar al-Assad, and the (Lebanese) Hezbollah forces, in the town of Kharab al-Shaham in the western countryside of Daraa Governorate, on the The Syrian-Jordanian border, which is close to the site of the air raid that targeted a drug-trafficking factory about ten days ago. He indicated that the raid resulted in the arrest of Al-Khalidi’s brother and his cousin, without being able to arrest him.
Al-Hourani added that the second raid, carried out by the regime forces, targeted, on Monday, the site of Rafie Ruwais, who is the second man for drug smuggling in southern Syria, in the town of Maaraba in the southeastern countryside of Daraa, which is about 10 kilometers away from the Jordanian border, without being able to locate him. arrest him.
Al-Hourani affirmed that “the majority of drug dealers in the governorates of As-Suwayda and Daraa have recently evacuated their well-known locations, especially after the incident targeting Al-Ramathan pastures, after they feared that the Syrian regime would send their locations and coordinates to Jordan for obtaining privileges in the coming days.”
