A rare piece of Michael Jordan memorabilia will be up for sale in the coming weeks, with a notable piece of his gold medal winning with the 1992 Dream Team at auction, according to the British Daily Mail.

Jordan covered the famous Reebok logo on the jacket worn by all Team USA players at the gold medal ceremony at the ’92 Olympics in Barcelona after a 117-85 crushing victory against Croatia.

Bidding opened Thursday noon and will close June 28 at 7 PM ET. It is expected to sell for up to $3 million. Of course, the six-time NBA champion was a Nike personality during his football career. His love and devotion to the swoosh was behind his decision to drape the US flag over it..

“He couldn’t bear the thought of wearing the Reebok logo on the world stage and winning a gold medal in the Olympics,” Willow Bay, a former NBA journalist, said in Jordan’s documentary The Last Dance.

“Michael Jordan is wearing the American flag — and it’s not just for patriotic reasons,” commentator Marv Albert said during the 1992 gala broadcast. Fellow Nike associates Magic Johnson and Charles Barkley followed suit, placing the flag in the same position, making the Reebok logo invisible.

The jacket was given as a gift to former NBA media relations employee Brian McIntyre who, according to auction house Sotheby’s, was tossed the jacket as Jordan said “I definitely don’t want that.”
