Aqaba authority denies rumors of a gas leak in the city

The Aqaba Special Authority confirmed that the source of a gas leak had not been proven in the city, after the monitoring stations did not detect anything, and the matter was followed up around the clock via aerial monitoring.

The authority coordinated with the Civil Defense Directorate and the governorate to conduct an immediate field survey throughout the city, in addition to following up the instantaneous readings of gaseous pollutants through fixed and mobile monitoring stations.

The normal readings showed and within the permissible limits according to the Jordanian standard No. 1140/2006, and it was confirmed that the smell spread in the city’s atmosphere does not have any source inside the city of Aqaba.

Some people, who had panic as a result of the smell, were transferred to the necessary examination, and all cases left the hospital in good health.

Contacts were made with those concerned in the city of Eilat, adjacent to Aqaba, to track down any sources of gas leakage from its side, as the wind direction was southwest.

The civil defense teams and the Directorate of Environment and Health and the devices affiliated to the Aqaba governorate worked to track the general indicators, which the measurements of the mobile and fixed monitoring stations in the city of Aqaba proved to be within the Jordanian standard.
