3 Peruvian thieves made global headlines after they carried out one of the stupidest robberies in history, stealing 220 sneakers from various brands, all for the right foot.

The amusing crime took place on April 30, at a sporting goods store in Huancayo, central Peru, according to local authorities odditycentral.

Unpleasant surprise

At about 3:30 in the morning, 3 men managed to cut the locks in the back of the store and steal 3 large boxes full of boxes of sneakers of various brands. What the thieves did not realize was that all the shoes they stole contained only sneakers for the right foot. The owner prepared the three boxes to display the shoes at the local sporting goods fair.

Authorities suspect the thieves have stashed their cargo, as there is no way to sell the sneakers on the black market without their pairs.

Eduan Diaz, Junín Police District Chief, told L.L.C America Noticias“We did the inspection at the scene, and the thing about this theft is that only the right foot sneakers were stolen,” he said, adding that it was only a matter of time before the thieves were identified, as they were filmed with surveillance cameras in the area, and left their fingerprints at the crime scene.

Even with the left sneakers still in their possession, the store owner estimates losses at around $13,000, unless the 220 stolen sneakers are recovered, because just like thieves, he can’t sell the sneakers individually.

“Sure they wanted to sell it for half,” one Twitter user joked.
