On Friday, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi threatened to launch a military operation inside Syria with the aim of stopping drug smuggling.

He said, in statements to the American “CNN” station, that many people have suffered from the consequences of the “Syrian crisis,” including Jordan, and we will be keen to do everything necessary to mitigate any threat to Jordan’s security.

He continued, “We do not deal with the drug threat lightly,” noting that “if we do not see measures to reduce this threat, we will do what is necessary to confront it, including military action inside Syria.”

Al-Safadi added that drug smuggling does not pose a threat to Jordan alone, but also threatens the Arab Gulf states and all countries of the world.

It is noteworthy that many countries of the world have seized, during the past years, hundreds of drug shipments coming from areas controlled by the Assad regime in Syria, as the regime and its Iranian militias, led by the Lebanese “Hezbollah”, are a major source of the narcotic “Captagon”, which It is one of their most important sources of funding.

Al-Safadi mentioned in his speech that the League of Arab States “will consider very soon the return of Syria to its seat,” noting that Jordan discussed the peace initiative in Syria with the United States of America.

He added, “There are enough votes among the members of the Arab League for Syria to return to the League.”

He explained that Jordan “reached a paper some time ago that developed into an initiative based on a pioneering Arab role, according to a step-by-step approach, in coordination with our partners and allies, and in line with Resolution 2254 to advance towards a solution in Syria.”
