Representative Adnan Mashuqa called on the government to develop an integrated plan to deal with the crisis of the creditor and the debtor, with the imminent decision to stop the imprisonment of the debtor, which has continued over the past years, as a result of the Corona virus crisis.

In a statement to Al-Bawsala, he considered interesting that the issue of the debtor’s imprisonment is complex and has social and economic dimensions, and any decision regarding it must take into account and preserve the rights of all groups, whether the creditor or the debtor.

He pointed to the negative economic effects of stopping the decision to imprison the debtor, especially on the commercial movement in the country, which is reflected in the economic situation in general, pointing out that many merchants suffer from stopping the debtor’s imprisonment, due to the failure to deal in selling cash.

The deputy stressed that the imprisonment of the debtor is necessary, but there must be a specific control for it, so that it takes into account groups of debtors, especially the poor, and the study of their social conditions, noting the importance of not going to open new prisons, especially since the number of inmates has become very large.

And he indicated that this matter requires a prudent, just and fair decision from the government, which has the decision-making authority in this issue, stressing the need to solve other problems related to the debtor’s crisis, on top of which is poverty and unemployment.

Mashuqa added, “When looking at this issue from an emotional eye, it sees the poor debtor who is unable to fulfill, the government is required to find a solution to this issue, but when looking from another eye, it is seen that many rich people refrained from fulfilling their financial obligations, which reflected negatively on many sectors.” .

The deputy saw interesting that this issue is a double-edged sword, as it has negative social dimensions for one group and negative dimensions for another group, and the government is required to deal with it wisely and fairly.

On Sunday, a government source revealed that the decisions to stop the debtor’s imprisonment were not extended, according to Defense Order No. (28), which expires on April 30.

The source added, “It is customary for extension decisions to be issued before the end of their validity period.”
