A meeting of the foreign ministers of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Egypt and Syria in Amman on Monday

On Monday, Jordan will host a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Iraq and the Arab Republic of Egypt with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian Arab Republic.

The official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ambassador Sinan Al-Majali, said that the meeting comes as a continuation of the consultative meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt, which was hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Jeddah in mid-April, and to build on the contacts that these countries made with the Syrian government in The context of its proposals, and the Jordanian initiative to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

On April 14, a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council was held in Jeddah, with the participation of the foreign ministers of Egypt, Iraq and Jordan, to discuss the issue of Syria’s return to the Arab League, about a month before the Arab summit in Saudi Arabia.

The Arab ministers participating in the Jeddah meeting agreed on the importance of playing an Arab leadership role in efforts to end the crisis in Syria.

A few days after the meeting, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan visited Damascus, in the first official Saudi visit to Syria since the estrangement between the two countries with the start of the crisis in Syria 12 years ago.

The League of Arab States suspended Syria’s membership in November 2011.
