Minister of Industry and Trade, Minister of Labor Youssef Al-Shamali said, on Saturday, that there are 36 major companies in Jordan that export abroad.

Al-Shamali added, during his participation in the “Communication: Dialogue on Reality and Aspirations” forum, that there is a network of free trade agreements, markets, and achievement at the level of exports, even after excluding potash and phosphate exports.

He indicated that there is skepticism about the partnership between the two sectors. However, he stressed the existence of a clear path, as the private sector is making plans and participating in the economic modernization plan.

At the same time, he pointed out that there are circumstances beyond Jordan’s control, such as the inflamed region and the period of the Arab Spring.

The director of the “Iqla’” program funded by the US Agency for International Development, Laith Al-Qassem, said that roles and responsibilities should be distributed between the public and private sectors.

Al-Qasim added that the private and public sectors do not agree on how to build a better future in terms of understandings.

He added that the government is responsible for providing a suitable environment for job opportunities, pointing out that there is a defect in the Jordanian private sector as well, as there are job opportunities that are not in demand.

He asked about the private sector’s exploitation of export opportunities and free trade agreements.
