The General Iftaa Department answered a question about whether it is permissible to calculate the feasts that are paid to the wombs from the zakat if they are poor, and is it correct to give them in the form of in-kind materials or gifts?

The “Eidiya” remains a fixed and inherited social habit in many Islamic societies due to its association with the blessed Eid Al-Fitr.

In her answer, she affirmed that zakat is an obligatory right with money according to its conditions specified by the Sharia, and it is given to the eight types mentioned in the holy verse. And she explained that “there is nothing wrong with paying it on occasions, provided that this does not lead to a delay in taking it out, otherwise it is not permissible, but rather it is permissible to hasten it beyond its time. If the aunts, aunts, and relatives are among the poor, it is permissible to pay zakat to them in the form of a gift or “Eidiyyah.”

And she added that the present intention is necessary, and as for what was previously paid from the “Eidiyat” on previous holidays, it is not permissible for the payer today to calculate it from Zakat. Because he did not evoke the intention when paying. God only knows.

The “Eidiya” is often presented in the form of a sum of money to children on the day of Eid, and with the passage of years innovations have occurred in the way of presenting the Eidiya, so that it is a happy memory immortalized by the memory of adults and children.
