The representative of the financial and banking sector in the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Firas Sultan, confirmed that there is a strong demand for dinars with exchange companies, with the approaching holiday of Eid Al-Fitr.

Sultan said that the increased demand for the dinar is due to the increase in remittances from Jordanian expatriates working abroad, and the increase in tourism activity.

According to Central Bank figures, the Kingdom’s tourism income increased during the first quarter of this year by 88.4%, compared to the same period last year, by recording $1.671 billion.

He drew attention to the presence of a large supply of various foreign currencies in the local market, linked to tourism activity, which is considered an engine for the national economy, and the strengthening of the Kingdom’s reserves of foreign currencies.

Sultan, who also holds the position of second vice president of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, expected that other currencies would witness demand during the coming period, such as the Egyptian pound and the Turkish lira, due to the expected tourist reservations abroad during the Eid holiday.

In Jordan, there are 250 companies and branches operating in the exchange sector distributed throughout the Kingdom, employing approximately 4,000 Jordanian employees.
