“Giving is not limited to ages, and it does not stop at circumstances.” This is the lesson that the Jordanian girl, Sham al-Ramahi, teaches to adults, after she chose to draw a smile on the faces of needy children through the “Eid and Noss” initiative.
Sham (9 years old), launched her initiative with the support of her family two years ago, when she decided to save an amount of money in a small piggy bank to collect money, to donate what she collected at the end of Ramadan to buy clothes and Eid needs for needy children.
Childhood is the title of the initiative, and humanity is its content. The Jordanian girl and her peers wanted, indirectly, to give adults a lesson, that a person can provide and help, whatever his living situation.
During an interview conducted by Anadolu Agency with Cham and a number of children participating in the initiative, they announced their goals with their high enthusiasm and joyful eyes, before saying: “We want to help.”
“Eid and a text”
Sham says: “The Eid and Noss initiative spreads joy to children so that they feel the holiday. I collect my money every year and donate what I collect, but this year I wanted to share it (the initiative) with other children.”
Amidst the features of her mother’s satisfaction, the little girl adds: “I love what I do very much, because this makes me feel about others, and how much they need help, and we can really help them.”
After a moment of reflection and calculation, Sham revealed: “I collect about 30 dinars (42 US dollars) with my money during the month of Ramadan, and I will buy them toys for the children, so that they can be happy with them on the feast.”
With the help of her mother, Bennet Sham, “The initiative is called (Eid and Noss); Because the amount that is collected secures Eid clothes for a child, and exceeds his need, and a text, is to confirm that the joy of Eid will be achieved for whoever gets what is inside the piggy bank.
The initiative seeks to help children belonging to families that cannot provide Eid needs, especially in light of the high unemployment rate in the country, which reached 24 percent in 2021, according to the Jordanian Department of Statistics.
First time
After they heard about what Cham was doing two years ago, a number of children decided to participate in “Eid and Noss” for the first time, and they actually started collecting money in “piggy banks” on which the name of the initiative was written.
The child, Osaid Jaber (8 years old), says with his eyes full of happiness: “I collect money during the month of Ramadan to give it to the poor on Eid, and I participate in the (Eid and Text) initiative for the first time.”
As for the child, Qais Ikram (6 years old), he lifted a piggy bank made of light metal, with the name “Eid and Noss” written on it, expressing his happiness to participate in the initiative.
In a childish tone filled with joy, Qais explains: “I am happy because today I am with the Levant, and we will collect with our piggy banks the price of Eid clothes for the poor.”
Here, the 7-year-old Nour Haymour intervened, saying: “I am very excited to participate in this initiative; Because I will help the poor” children.
3.8 million children under the age of 18 live in Jordan, representing nearly 40 percent of its 11 million population, of whom about 30 percent are non-Jordanians (Syria and Palestine), according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

qualitative initiative
Hussein Mahadin, a professor of sociology at Mu’tah University (Jordanian governmental), described the Sham initiative as “an extension of the impact of the quality of the psychological and social upbringing that this child imbibed from her family.”
Mahadin explained that “her chronological age (Sham) does not entitle her, from a scientific point of view, to be an instinctive or spontaneous initiative, but with this initiative she is strengthening two dimensions of doing good, for her and her family, as the root of this destined behavior.”
He continued, “But on the other hand, this child transmits a qualitative thought and behavior that sets an example for others, stating that the value of the initiative is not in large financial numbers, due to its limitations, but it also represents a new horizon that would make others follow its lead.”
He concluded his speech by emphasizing that “this initiative can be generalized in more than one region in Jordan, especially since it was launched in the holy month of Ramadan, which is characterized by the noble values embodied in which solidarity and a sense of others are embodied.”
Jordan suffers from difficult economic conditions, and a significant increase in commodities, due to the crises of the surrounding countries, in addition to the Ukrainian-Russian crisis that has been going on since February 2022, which has increased the poverty rate.
