The British government has developed a plan to reduce the number of squirrels in the United Kingdom, as it decided to add a pill to Nutella and offer it to squirrels in their scattered places, according to the British “Daily Mail” website.

The British site states that the plan is old and was previously introduced as a way to control the thriving gray squirrel population, and has now been re-introduced after the large increase in squirrel numbers.

Daily Mail report

The report says: “People living in areas where red squirrels compete may be required to place in their gardens specially designed feeders containing contraceptive-garnished food. which are currently being tested on squirrels in captivity, on both males and females..

Trial results suggest this method could be as effective as picking – but much more acceptable, and the research also shows that the UK public is in favor, with half of them happy to have such a feeder in their garden.

Gray squirrels were brought to Britain in the 1870s, but caused a population decline of reds, due to competition for food and transmission of squirrel pox.
