The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority, Captain Haitham Mesto, said on Saturday that flights between Khartoum and Amman are operated “only by Sudanese airlines,” noting that “there is no Jordanian airlines operating” between the two capitals.
Two Sudanese companies operate two flights a week between Khartoum and Amman, on Sundays and Fridays, according to what Mistou told Al-Mamlaka.
On Saturday morning, clashes broke out in Khartoum between the army forces led by Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces loyal to his former ally, Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hemedti.”
Shortly before noon on Saturday, the Rapid Support Forces announced “full control” of the Republican Palace in central Khartoum, Khartoum Airport and Meroe (north) and Al-Obeid (center) airports.
As a result, Saudi Arabia and Egypt suspended flights with Sudan.
Mesto told Al-Mamlaka that the decision to operate flights between Khartoum and Amman “depends on the Sudanese airlines and the situation at Khartoum Airport.”
The flights carry Sudanese travelers who often come to Jordan for treatment, in addition to Jordanian travelers, as explained by Mesto, who said that the flights carry exports from Jordan to Sudan, “most of which are medicines and imports from Sudan to Jordan, which are meat.”
