The director of the Salt Agriculture Directorate, Qais Abu Omaira, pointed out that this rain, which is called in the popular tradition “the winter of April”, revived hope among farmers with summer crops and breeders of livestock and productive trees because it increased the soil’s moisture and efficiency.

“April Winter” evokes the legacy of popular proverbs
The “Winter of April” evokes an inherited proverb from the proverbs handed down by parents and grandparents to be preserved by successive generations in the collective memory, for an image that tells of the human relationship with the land, hope and optimism for an agricultural season full of bounties, vibrant.
The rain showers witnessed by the various regions during the past days have a story in the popular imagination that has been on the tongues, so sometimes you see them saying “the winter of April revives the land and the human being,” and sometimes “the winter of April equals the railroad and the acre,” and at other times they say “the winter of April is the crown of the season,” and so on. They said, “In April, the harvest is wherever it is,” rather they said, “In April, put out your fire and open the windows of your house.” But the constant among all these proverbs is that they are said as a metaphor for the importance of rain in the month of April.
Social activist Osama Al-Qudah comments on these beautiful Jordanian stories that go back to the reader’s imagination not long ago, saying: “In April, the mountains are covered with their green dress, and nature emerges from its sleeves as an ornament that appears to the onlookers. Birds come out of their nests, beasts from their wilderness, herbivores from their pens, and people spread out in the wilderness to enjoy the pristine nature under its warm sun that caresses bodies that we have lost in the long winter’s sleep.
And before my eyes, the head of the Livestock Breeders Association in Karak, Zaal Al-Qualit, appears before my eyes the image of fruit trees and field crops of various kinds and their many benefits, while the pastures cover the wasteland with a green carpet, a masterpiece for the onlookers, and the herdsmen celebrate it because it relieves their shoulders of the costs of fodder, to produce abundance in the quantity and quality of milk and its derivatives. .
As for the agriculturalist Abd al-Wahhab al-Hamaydah, he goes to another direction related to his scientific specialization, and he says that the “April winter” provides moisture of importance at a time when it is very hot, and at a time when field crops, especially wheat and barley, are most in need of water for their growth, so you see them growing They rise in height, intertwine, and retain moisture for a longer period, which makes wheat and barley in the stage of full maturity and the ability to resist heat. The matter is not much different in rain-fed summer crops such as legumes and vegetables.
Uday al-Maaytah jokes about deceiving Nissan by saying, “Sunshine and rain at times,” meaning that the April sun does not deceive you at the beginning of the day, because clouds and rain replace it in the middle of the day, or vice versa, where the weather is cloudy at the beginning of the day, clear in the middle, and it may return to cloudy at the end. Some may have been deceived and put away winter clothes, thinking that the airport season is over.
The Director of Karak Agriculture, Mesbah Al-Tarawneh, says that the rates of rain in general during this season are good compared to previous years in terms of quantities and distribution over the rainy months, but the rains that fell during the past few days will contribute to raising the humidity in the land, and will reflect positively on field and pastoral crops. In addition to groundwater, and raising the percentage of storage in earthen water pits and dams, calling on farmers to benefit from it in preparing the land for the cultivation of summer rainfed crops.
