Representative Nidal Al-Hiyari said that there are abuses at Al-Balqa Applied University, describing this as “corruption in the millions.”
Al-Hiyari added, in the parliamentary oversight session on Wednesday, that the former president paid bonuses worth 693,000 dinars to employees close to him.
“There is a committee in the university that confirmed the existence of administrative and financial violations,” according to al-Hiyari, who confirmed the existence of a violation in the solar energy installation project, which cost the university about 1.8 million dinars by an influential person without submitting a legal bid. The project also incurred about one and a half million dinars in exchange for electricity bills.
Manipulation of upgrades
Al-Hiyari accused the president exempted by the Higher Education Council of tampering with promotions and appointments, through nepotism, as he worked to delay the promotion of a group of professors because they were not close to him.
Al-Hiyari pointed out that the former president was obligated to teach a book, for which the university collects its price from the student at a value of 25 dinars, through the mediation of a company.
anti-Corruption
The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Azmi, maintained what Al-Hiyari said, saying that the current university president had referred many files and violations, including what was mentioned in the Audit Bureau report, to the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission.
In turn, MP Al-Hiyari retracted his question about the university into an interrogation, after the minister’s assurances that many files would be referred to the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission.
